In addition to the previously mentioned standard tests, we also offer other ecotoxicological analyses such as biodegradability testing using Zahn-Wellens tests, pilot tests, and more. Overall, EPAS Consultancy's ecotoxicity testing services provide important information to companies in various sectors, including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and waste processing, to comply with discharge permits and environmental regulations and to minimise the impact of their discharges on the environment.
Ecosystem Impact Analysis
EPAS International has a specialised and accredited laboratory that can carry out ecotoxicity tests for acute effects on both freshwater and saltwater organisms, and is also equipped to investigate long-term effects using a package of in vitro and in vivo tests known as "ScreenTox". By characterising the aquatic ecotoxicity of a wastewater, our experts are able to determine if a wastewater is toxic for the ecosystems or not.
For the tests, our company uses a Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) approach, which considers the overall toxic effect of wastewater or effluent on aquatic organisms. This approach is fundamentally different from the classical analytical approach in which the specific pollution is only quantified chemically. WET therefore offers an added value and gains importance in environmental permits and company-specific BAT (Best Available Technology) studies.
What if the sample is toxic?
In case the result of the test indicates toxicity, our experts can help identifiy the cause and possible elimination method of the toxicity through a TIE analysis.

Did you know...
... that our laboratory is one of only two accredited laboratories for ecotoxicity in Flanders?
Thanks to the hard work of our lab technicians, EPAS International's lab has been BELAC 657-TEST accredited for ecotoxicity tests since 2019.
